F.A.Q.

Scented Candle FAQ

A: When you light your candle for the first time, allow it to burn until the entire top layer of wax has melted to the edge of the container. This usually takes 2 to 4 hours. This creates a full melt pool and is crucial for preventing tunneling (leaving unmelted wax around the edges) and ensuring an even burn throughout the candle’s life.

A: Tunneling occurs when the wick burns straight down the center, leaving a ring of hard wax around the container’s perimeter. It’s usually caused by not allowing the first burn to reach the edge.

  • To fix it: If the wax layer is thin, try burning the candle for a very long period (up to 4 hours) to melt the stubborn edge. Alternatively, you can use a hairdryer on a low setting or carefully wrap the candle jar in aluminum foil (leaving the top open) while burning to trap the heat and melt the residual wax.

A: You should trim the wick to about 1/4 inch (6 mm) before every burn after the first one.

  • Why it’s important: Trimming the wick ensures a clean, steady flame. An untrimmed wick can cause the flame to get too large, leading to excess soot (black smoke), uneven burning, and faster consumption of the wax and fragrance oil.

A: Soot is generally a sign that the flame is too large or the wick is too long. It can also happen if the candle is burning in a drafty area.

  • Solution: Trim the wick to $1/4$ inch. If the problem persists, move the candle away from vents or fans.

A: We recommend burning your candle for no more than 4 hours at a time. Burning longer than this can cause the container to overheat, potentially weakening the glass and increasing the risk of fire or injury. It also causes the fragrance oil to burn off too quickly.

A: Black residue (soot) on the inside of the jar is normal but usually indicates the wick needs trimming. If the flame is too tall, it deposits carbon onto the glass. Wipe the interior of the glass with a clean paper towel or tissue after the wax has cooled completely.

A: No. You should stop burning the candle when there is only about 1/2 inch of wax remaining in the container. Burning past this point can cause the glass jar to overheat or shatter, as the flame is too close to the bottom surface.

A: Our candles are generally safe when burned correctly. However, essential oils and fragrance oils can be toxic if ingested, and the candle flame is a fire hazard. Always keep burning candles out of reach of pets and small children and never leave them unattended.

A: We primarily use a blend of [Insert Wax Type, e.g., soy wax, coconut wax, or a soy-paraffin blend]. [Insert Wax Type] burns cleaner and slower than traditional paraffin, providing a longer-lasting and consistent fragrance throw.

A:

  • Cold Throw: Refers to the strength of the fragrance when the candle is unlit (at room temperature).

  • Hot Throw: Refers to the strength of the fragrance when the candle is fully melted and burning. Our candles are formulated to provide an excellent hot throw to fill your room with scent.

A: Yes, a bumpy or uneven surface after cooling is perfectly normal for natural waxes (like soy or coconut). This is a characteristic of the natural ingredients and does not affect the performance, scent, or quality of the candle.

A: Store your candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Keeping them away from light and heat helps prevent the wax from melting or discoloring and preserves the integrity of the fragrance oil.
